ITA Airways boosts flights to Bangkok and Delhi, announces first Caribbean route to Santo Domingo

ITA Airways has announced an expansion of its connections with India and Thailand during the peak of the 2026 summer season, responding to the growing demand for direct connections between Italy and Asia and reaffirming its commitment to intercontinental expansion.

Throughout August 2026, ITA Airways’ direct flight from Rome Fiumicino to Bangkok will increase from three to five weekly, while the route between Rome Fiumicino and Delhi will become a daily service with seven weekly frequencies.

“In a phase where the geopolitical landscape makes the ability to reach Asia through direct and reliable connections even more valuable, the increase in frequencies to Delhi and Bangkok in August 2026 is a concrete sign of confidence in the market and in ITA Airways’ ability to respond quickly to passenger demand, while ensuring continuity and quality of service,” said Joerg Eberhart, CEO and General Manager of ITA Airways.

This strategic decision by ITA Airways is aimed at effectively meeting customer needs, supporting both tourism and business travel during the peak summer period. At the same time, the increase in capacity will allow passengers from Thailand and India to reach, via Rome, summer destinations across the ITA Airways network and those of its partners in Italy, Europe, Africa, North and South America.

Star Alliance officially welcomed ITA Airways as its newest member at the end of March this year, marking the completion of the Italian carrier’s integration into the world’s largest airline alliance.

ITA Airways will launch a new seasonal route between Rome Fiumicino Airport and Santo Domingo as part of its 2026–2027 winter schedule.

The service will begin on November 30, 2026, operating once weekly on Mondays, before increasing to two weekly flights from mid-December through the end of March 2027. Flights will be operated using Airbus A330neo aircraft, offering Business, Premium Economy and Economy cabins.

The new route marks ITA Airways’ entry into Central America and further strengthens its presence across the Americas, where the airline already operates services to the United States, Canada, Brazil and Argentina.

Volotea and ITA launch bilateral codeshare agreement

Volotea, the airline connecting small and medium-sized European cities, and ITA Airways, announced the launch of their bilateral codeshare agreement, effective 15 April, 2026. This marks a new step in the strategic partnership between the two companies, aimed at strengthening connections between Italy and Europe.

Thanks to the codeshare, the two airlines will further expand travel opportunities and offer passengers an extensive combined network featuring up to 104 available origin and destination combinations. The agreement is based on Volotea’s current network to Rome Fiumicino and ITA Airways’ network at the Roman hub, enabling more efficient connections between numerous European destinations and significantly expanding connection options.
