St. Regis Hotels & Resorts has opened its first Hungary property inside the restored Klotild Palace in central Budapest, arriving just weeks before the city hosts the 2026 UEFA Champions League Final on 30 May.
The St. Regis Budapest occupies one of the Hungarian capital’s most recognised architectural landmarks, a Neo-Baroque twin palace commissioned at the turn of the 20th century by Princess Klotild of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. The opening marks the brand’s debut in Hungary and adds a significant luxury address to a city already drawing record international attention.
Paris Saint-Germain will face Arsenal FC at the Puskas Arena on 30 May in the Champions League Final, an event expected to bring tens of thousands of football supporters and corporate travellers to Budapest. The St. Regis arrives at a moment when demand for premium accommodation in the city is at its highest.
A Palace Restored
Klotild Palace was designed by architects Floris Korb and Kalman Giergl and once served as the ceremonial entrance to Pest for travellers crossing the Elisabeth Bridge. Its defining feature, a 48-metre tower adorned with replicas of Archduke Joseph Karl’s crown, has been preserved as part of the restoration. The building holds protected UNESCO-listed architectural status.
The hotel offers 63 rooms and 39 suites, including the Klotild Tower Suite and a two-bedroom Presidential Suite spanning 169 square metres with a private balcony overlooking the Danube, the Elizabeth Bridge and the Citadella.
Design and Interiors
Interiors draw from the movement and light of the Danube River, expressed through soft blue tones, fluid graphic patterns and shimmering finishes. Design references include the Hungarian Baths, with decorative ceramics and steam-like textures, alongside Secessionist and Art Nouveau motifs featuring bronze detailing, curved forms and black and white floor patterns.
Guestrooms are conceived as private theatre boxes, inspired by Budapest’s operatic heritage and the Hungarian State Opera House, which opened in 1884. Brass-accented bedside details, shaded fabrics and Art Nouveau decorative tiles echo the city’s artistic legacy. Guests receive the brand’s signature St. Regis Butler Service throughout their stay.
Dining and Bars
The St. Regis Bar features a stage-inspired layout with sculptural alcoves and a bar counter framed by a large glass mural reimagining the orchestra of the Hungarian State Opera House. Head Mixologist Norbert Tengely, whose approach centres on perfection through simplicity, has created the hotel’s signature cocktail, The Crown Mary, a variation on the Bloody Mary that pays homage to Klotild Palace and to The St. Regis New York, where the original was first served in 1934.
99 Sushi Bar and Restaurant brings premium Japanese cuisine to the property, with a show kitchen and private dining room offering an omakase seasonal experience under Group Culinary Director Chef Thinus van der Westhuizen. Klotild Patisserie serves Hungarian and French-Viennoiserie pastries alongside a bespoke limited-edition coffee blend in a setting modelled on a historic apothecary.
In the Atrium, guests can take part in St. Regis signature rituals including Afternoon Tea and Champagne Sabrage.
Spa and Wellness
The St. Regis Spa features an indoor pool, a traditional hammam, a Finnish sauna, experience showers and three treatment rooms. The spa has partnered with Sothys and Budapest-based luxury skincare brand Omorovicza, which is rooted in the city’s historic bathing culture. A sixth-floor fitness studio sits beneath a glass roof fitted with state-of-the-art equipment.
Brand Statement
“The St. Regis Budapest stands as a remarkable expression of architectural heritage, one that feels inherently aligned with the legacy of St. Regis,” said George Fleck, Senior Vice President and Global Brand Leader of St. Regis Hotels and Resorts. “Bringing the House of Astor to Klotild Palace is a natural extension of that legacy, introducing our signature rituals, legendary St. Regis Butler Service, and enduring glamour to one of Europe’s most storied capitals.”
The St. Regis Budapest is located moments from the Danube and the city’s most visited attractions, and is within reach of the Puskas Arena, where PSG and Arsenal will contest European football’s biggest club prize on 30 May 2026.
