Tallinn Airport announced that over 283 thousand passengers passed through the airport in September 2018.
Compared to last year, the number of passengers increased by 6.4%. It was the lowest growth indicator in the past 20 months but considering the high level related to the EU presidency events last September, the growth figure can still be considered very positive. The effect of the presidency is especially noticeable in the drastic change in the growth figures of Finnair, Lufthansa, and Nordica. The number of seats offered at regular flights increased by 3.2% in total, and the corresponding number of passengers by 6.3%, i.e. twice as fast. Since the beginning of the year, the number of seats offered has increased by 10%, and the corresponding number of passengers by 13% in comparison to the year 2017. Thereby, also the average percentage of filled seats on regular flights has improved, having been at the average level of the year in September (71%). 79.5% of the regular flights departed on time; the most punctual one of the airlines was Norwegian (93.3%).
According to Eero Pärgmäe, the best news for our passengers in September came from Wizzair, which started flights from London Luton Airport. It is possible to fly to the different airports of London also by Ryanair, easyJet, Air Baltic and British Airways. In September, the total selection of destinations included 41 cities, but as the autumn arrives, several summer lines cease to operate; Nordica also ceased flights to Gothenburg. During the transition to the winter season at the end of October, various existing lines are expected to add to their flight schedule; next to Nordica and SAS, also Norwegian and Air Baltic will commence flights to Stockholm. Air Baltic will start flights to Oslo and Ryanair will open a new line to Edinburgh. “From the perspective of service, the greatest challenge of this autumn for the Airport will be to ensure a sufficient number of parking places. From the beginning of the year 2019, the problem should be solved when the new parking garage will be opened,” Pärgmäe added.
