IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed its first Kimpton hotel in Madrid, marking the luxury lifestyle brand’s debut in Spain’s capital through a partnership with El Corte Inglés. The 106-room property is planned for Goya Street in the prestigious Salamanca district and is expected to open in mid-2030.
The project strengthens IHG’s luxury and lifestyle portfolio in Spain and adds Madrid to a growing list of Spanish destinations already home to the Kimpton brand, including Barcelona, Mallorca and Marbella. The signing was advised by Colliers Hotels Iberia.
The future hotel will occupy a landmark heritage building at Goya Street 89, one of the most sought-after addresses in Madrid. Plans include a ground-floor restaurant, spa and indoor pool, as well as a rooftop restaurant and bar offering views across the city’s historic skyline.
The development reflects the continued expansion of the Kimpton brand in major global cities. Known for its design-led approach and locally inspired guest experiences, the brand aims to bring a fresh luxury hospitality concept to one of Europe’s fastest-growing urban tourism destinations.
Willemijn Geels, Vice President, Development, Europe, IHG Hotels & Resorts, said: “The signing of our first Kimpton in Madrid marks an exciting milestone for IHG as we continue to grow our luxury and lifestyle portfolio in strategic markets across Europe. Spain is a cornerstone of our European growth strategy, offering significant scale potential and strong fundamentals, and we’re delighted to partner with El Corte Inglés on this exciting new hotel.”
She added: “Madrid has firmly established itself as one of Europe’s most compelling destinations for luxury travel, and this exceptional hotel will give guests a distinctive new way to experience the city through Kimpton’s bold design, heartfelt service and locally inspired experiences.”
Madrid’s Luxury Tourism Market Continues to Grow
The signing comes as Madrid continues to strengthen its position as one of Europe’s leading city destinations. According to Spain’s National Institute of Statistics (INE), tourism became one of Madrid’s most important economic sectors in 2025, generating a record €17.9 billion in international visitor spending.
The figure represented an 11% increase compared with 2024 and a 71% rise compared with pre-pandemic levels in 2019. The city’s combination of culture, gastronomy, luxury retail and international connectivity has helped attract growing numbers of high-spending visitors.
The new Kimpton hotel will benefit from its location in the Salamanca district, an area known for luxury shopping, fine dining, cultural attractions and elegant residential streets. The neighbourhood is home to some of Madrid’s most prestigious retail avenues and remains a key destination for both domestic and international travellers.
IHG Expands Its Luxury and Lifestyle Portfolio
The Madrid project forms part of a wider growth strategy by IHG Hotels & Resorts across Europe. As of 31 March 2026, the company operated 116 luxury and lifestyle hotels across Europe, with a further 68 properties in development.
In Spain, IHG had 66 open hotels across all brand segments and another 16 properties in the pipeline. The addition of a Kimpton-branded hotel in Madrid further strengthens the group’s presence in one of Europe’s most competitive and dynamic hotel markets.
The Madrid signing represents another step in the brand’s expansion across Southern Europe, where demand for boutique luxury accommodation continues to grow. By combining contemporary design, local cultural influences and personalised service, the hotel aims to appeal to both international visitors and local residents when it opens later this decade.
