IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed Crowne Plaza Vienna, marking the return of the premium hotel brand to Austria. The 195-room hotel is expected to open toward the end of the third quarter of 2026 through a partnership with FEURING Asset Management GmbH, expanding IHG’s presence in one of Europe’s strongest city tourism markets.
Located in Vienna’s Margareten district, the new hotel will combine sustainable design with modern hospitality and will target business, leisure and blended travellers. The signing comes as Vienna celebrates a record tourism year, with more than 20 million overnight stays recorded in 2025.
Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect David Chipperfield, the hotel draws inspiration from the Austrian National Library while embracing contemporary architecture and environmentally responsible construction. The property has already achieved both the EU Eco Label and the Austrian Environment Label certifications before opening.
The hotel will feature 195 guestrooms, including 22 suites. Guests staying in the top-floor suites will enjoy panoramic views across Vienna, while the property’s location between the Opera House and Schönbrunn Palace places visitors within easy reach of many of the Austrian capital’s leading attractions and the Margaretengürtel underground station.
Designed for business and leisure travellers
Crowne Plaza Vienna has been planned to serve the growing number of travellers combining work and leisure during a single trip. The hotel will include five naturally lit meeting rooms accommodating up to 140 delegates, making it suitable for conferences, corporate events and small business gatherings.
Facilities will also include an Austrian-inspired restaurant serving locally sourced cuisine, a contemporary bar, an underground car park equipped with electric vehicle charging stations, a rooftop fitness terrace and a wellness area overlooking the city skyline.
Willemijn Geels, Vice President, Development, Europe, IHG Hotels & Resorts, said: “We are delighted to bring back our world-renowned Crowne Plaza brand to Austria. As a European capital with a thriving mix of corporate, meetings and leisure demand, Vienna is an ideal fit for Crowne Plaza’s focus on purposeful design and connected guest experiences.”
She added: “This signing also marks the continuation of an exciting partnership with FEURING, a highly experienced operator with an impressive portfolio across Europe. We see strong potential to grow together and look forward to establishing Crowne Plaza Vienna as a standout reference for the brand across the German-speaking region and beyond.”
Vienna continues to attract hotel investment
The agreement reflects continued confidence in Vienna’s tourism sector. The city recorded more than 20 million overnight stays during 2025, its strongest performance since records began, reinforcing its appeal as a destination for international meetings, cultural tourism and city breaks.
Matthias Lowin, Managing Partner of FEURING Asset Management GmbH, said: “We are excited to partner with IHG Hotels & Resorts on a property we have long believed has enormous potential. Crowne Plaza’s focus on blended travel and purposeful gatherings aligns perfectly with our vision for the hotel, and IHG’s global scale and enterprise platform give us the reach and recognition to match.”
He added: “Vienna is a city that thrives on the balance between business and culture. Together with IHG, we are confident Crowne Plaza Vienna will become a standout addition to the city’s hospitality landscape.”
Crowne Plaza currently operates more than 400 hotels worldwide across city, airport, resort and suburban destinations. The brand has recently refreshed its identity with a stronger emphasis on blended travel, purposeful gatherings and guest experiences designed for travellers who combine work with leisure.
The new Vienna property will join 94 Crowne Plaza hotels already operating across Europe, with another 22 hotels in development, including recently signed projects in Budva, Montenegro, and Marne-la-Vallée, France. Once open, Crowne Plaza Vienna will increase IHG Hotels & Resorts’ Austrian portfolio to 20 open and pipeline hotels, including 11 properties in Vienna, further strengthening the company’s position in Central Europe’s growing hospitality market.
