Kimpton Opens Forest Escape Hotel in Shanghai With Pet Park and Kids Club

IHG Hotels & Resorts opened Kimpton Nine Trees Shanghai on June 30, 2026, adding a wellness-focused property to its Lifestyle & Luxury portfolio. The hotel is the second Kimpton property in Shanghai and is located in Fengxian, an eco-district in the south of the city surrounded by woodlands and urban greenery.

The property features 229 guestrooms and suites, including courtyard pool rooms, family-oriented accommodations and pet-friendly options. It includes three food and beverage venues, a spa and wellness facility spanning 913 square meters, and more than 2,150 square meters of meeting and event space.

A Horizontal Resort Layout in the City

The hotel is designed around a low-density, horizontally extended layout that the property describes as rare for Shanghai. Indoor and outdoor spaces are designed to flow into each other, combining natural light, greenery and material textures throughout the complex.

A garden feature with vertical hydroponic green walls sits above a temperature-controlled soaking pool accompanied by music, intended as an immersive sensory space rather than a conventional hotel amenity.

“Kimpton Nine Trees Shanghai was created as a new kind of urban escape, where design, art, wellness, and social energy come together in one living environment,” said Thomas Schmitt-Glaeser, General Manager, Kimpton Nine Trees Shanghai. “Our vision is to offer guests more than a stay; we want them to arrive, slow down, reconnect with themselves, and leave feeling inspired, recharged, and genuinely connected to the people and moments around them.”

Dining, Wellness and Family Amenities

The hotel’s three on-site food and beverage venues include two restaurants, SOLA & LUNA and SONG, along with a cocktail bar called ECHO. SOLA draws on northern Mediterranean cuisine from Italy, France and Spain, while LUNA operates as a private dining space for intimate tastings.

SONG, the hotel’s signature Chinese restaurant, spans 11 private dining rooms and focuses on fusion Jiangsu-Zhejiang cuisine, positioned as the property’s primary venue for celebrations and business entertainment. ECHO, housed in a separate building, is styled as an underground cave-inspired cocktail bar with handcrafted drinks and artisanal bites.

Guests also have access to Kimpton Kickstart, a daily complimentary coffee and tea offering, and Kimpton Social Hour, a nightly gathering with complimentary beer, wine and chef-prepared bites, both signature features across the Kimpton brand.

EverNine Spa & Wellness operates as a standalone wellness destination rather than a traditional hotel spa, spanning 913 square meters with eight private treatment rooms. The facility includes an indoor heated swimming pool, a shallow leisure pool, a 24-hour fitness center and an outdoor activity lawn, along with an outdoor plunge pool set within a lagoon rainforest landscape.

Family and pet amenities include The Nest Kids Club, which offers climbing zones and creative studios for children, and Zombilee Pet Park, a secured open-air area for pets with wash facilities and play installations. Select terrace guestrooms are also pet-friendly.

Meeting and Event Space

The hotel’s event offering is anchored by the pillar-free Bloom Ballroom, which spans approximately 1,200 square meters on the ground floor and is designed for banquets, product launches and large gatherings. An adjoining outdoor lawn extends the space for garden weddings and open-air events.

Four flexible multi-function rooms on the second floor accommodate smaller formats, including board meetings and private dinners. Kimpton Nine Trees Shanghai joins 87 Kimpton hotels currently operating worldwide.
