Dubai hotel occupancy up in July

STR Global’s preliminary July 2015 data for Dubai, United Arab Emirates, indicates significant year-over-year performance increases. Occupancy of four- and five-star hotels in Dubai was up 26 per cent year-on-year in July to 57.6 per cent. Occupancy was below 50 per cent until the end of Ramadan (which started June 18 and ended July 16). For the remaining days in the month, occupancy in the market eclipsed 70.0%.

Average daily rate (ADR), however, was down 2.9 per cent to Dh614, resulting in revenue per available room (RevPAR — an industry measure of rates and occupancies) to increase by 22.4 per cent to Dh353.

In June, occupancy was down 15.4 per cent to 63 per cent, while ADR dropped 8.6 per cent to Dh592.69, leading RevPAR to fall 22.7 per cent to Dh373.5, according to STR Global.

Hotel room supply rose 4.8 per cent in July, while demand jumped 32 per cent.
