IHG Strengthen Presence in Romania with Hotel Indigo Debut

IHG Hotels & Resorts has revealed the signing of Hotel Indigo Satu Mare, marking the brand’s first entry into Romania. This significant development not only marks the debut of the lifestyle brand in the Balkan nation but also reinforces its foothold in Eastern Europe.

Hotel Indigo Satu Mare, located in a renowned Art Nouveau building in the city of Satu Mare, celebrates the uniqueness of the neighborhood through an upscale boutique design. This captivating hotel will serve as a gateway for guests to immerse themselves in the local culture.

Situated in Romania’s northern borderlands, Satu Mare is not only famous for its picturesque landscapes but also boasts some of the region’s oldest architectural treasures. The city’s Old Town exudes a charming, village-like ambiance and showcases archaeological heritage dating back to the Bronze and Middle Ages. The hotel’s façade, dating back to 1902, is an iconic feature of the city’s skyline.

Scheduled to open in 2025, Hotel Indigo Satu Mare will join IHG’s existing properties in Romania, including Intercontinental Athénée Palace Bucharest, Crowne Plaza Bucharest, and Holiday Inn Bucharest-Times. Furthermore, IHG has plans for the Crowne Plaza Constanta Mamaia Beach, underscoring its commitment to expanding its footprint in Romania and leveraging the country’s flourishing economy.

With its 62 thoughtfully designed rooms and suites, Hotel Indigo Satu Mare will offer guests a locally inspired restaurant, a stylish cocktail bar, and a rejuvenating spa. Under a franchise agreement with Dacia SRL, a subsidiary of Manevi ZRT, IHG’s collaboration with a new and ambitious owner group signals a promising era of growth. The hotel will be managed by Hotel & More, a Hungarian hotel operator with extensive experience in the region.

Willemijn Geels, VP Development, Europe, IHG Hotels & Resorts, expressed her excitement about the partnership, stating, “This new signing marks the beginning of a new partnership in Romania. Introducing another brand to this growing market is an exciting milestone, and we are proud to be redeveloping one of the country’s most iconic hotels.
