Late 2023 will witness the grand unveiling of Urban Cowboy Denver. This luxurious boutique hotel and lifestyle brand, renowned in the East, is set to make its mark in the West.
The chosen venue? A majestic Gilded Age 1880s mansion, now transformed into a 16-room hotel, complete with a bar and restaurant.
Urban Cowboy Hotels, the brainchild of Lyon Porter and Jersey Banks, first made its presence felt in Williamsburg, BK. Since then, it has expanded its footprint to Nashville, TN, and Upstate NY. The move westward was always on the cards. However, it was the discovery of the iconic George Schleier mansion that solidified Denver as their next destination.
A Homecoming and Expansion
Porter expressed his enthusiasm about this new venture, marking it as a significant milestone in their journey. For Jersey Banks, this expansion is more personal. Growing up in Denver, she views this as a homecoming. “Bringing Urban Cowboy to the West has been a dream. Reimagining this historic mansion in my birthplace makes it even more special,” Banks remarked.
The mansion, a masterpiece designed by Denver’s own Frank Edbrooke, once belonged to the hat magnate and politician, George Schleier. This century-old landmark is now poised to cater to design-savvy travelers and become a cornerstone for the burgeoning Downtown Denver community.
In collaboration with GBX Group and Historic Denver, Porter and Banks have meticulously preserved the mansion’s original architecture. From its Queen Ann style façade to the intricate carvings of gargoyles and Bavarian swans, every detail has been retained. Yet, the modern traveler’s needs are addressed with the brand’s contemporary design touches.
Unique Features and Offerings
Every Urban Cowboy Hotel boasts of “found objects” sourced from various US road trips. This property is no exception. Highlights include a 19th-century wooden saloon bar, a “honey pot” brimming with Western frontier art, and the signature hand-hammered copper soaking tubs in every room. Porter’s custom wallpaper, inspired by a 1700s block print, seamlessly blends the past’s romanticism with Denver’s Frontier Cowboy look.
The two-story carriage house, reminiscent of 1880s Downtown Denver saloons, houses The Public House bar and restaurant. Guests can savor award-winning cocktails and wood-fired delicacies by Brooklyn’s Roberta’s. The Parlor Bar in the main mansion boasts a curated wine collection, with Roberta’s menu focusing on local produce.
Roberta’s co-founder, Brandon Hoy, shared his excitement about their Denver expansion. “Teaming up with Urban Cowboy to bring Brooklyn’s taste to Denver’s vibrant food scene has been thrilling. We’re eager to showcase Roberta’s culinary delights to Denver’s diverse audience,” he said.

Urban Cowboy Denver is strategically located at 1665 Grant St, Denver, CO. Slated for a late 2023 opening, room tariffs will commence at $295 per night.
