American Airlines Expands Footprint at Miami International Airport with New Routes and International Destination

Travelers often using Miami International Airport (MIA) are about to experience a warmer winter as American Airlines announces the addition of seven new routes and a brand-new international destination.

With over 380 peak-day flights this winter, American solidifies its position as the largest airline at MIA, offering service to 150 destinations.

Juan Carlos Liscano, American’s Vice President of MIA Hub Operations, expressed pride in the airline’s long-standing history at MIA and its commitment to serving as the hometown airline. Liscano stated, “Next winter we’re proud to continue to invest in the undisputed gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean, a true point of pride for our more than 14,000 locally-based team members.”

American Airlines currently operates flights from MIA to more than 85 unique destinations, including over 45 in Latin America and the Caribbean. With service to more than 70 destinations within the United States, American provides customers with the most convenient way to explore Miami or access a vast network of destinations across Latin America and the Caribbean.

One of the highlights of American Airlines’ expansion is the introduction of nonstop flights from MIA to Governor’s Harbour, Bahamas (GHB) starting on February 3. This new route, exclusive to American, will operate twice weekly on Embraer E175 aircraft. It complements the airline’s winter schedule for the Bahamas, which includes up to 14 daily departures to six destinations.

In addition to the new Bahamian destination, American Airlines will expand its winter schedule from MIA to include more than 140 peak-day departures to over 70 destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean. Passengers can look forward to increased service to locations such as Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR); Cartagena, Colombia (CTG); and Tortola, British Virgin Islands (EIS).
