According to the latest insights from Trip.com Group, Malaysia emerges as a prime destination in Asia during this period, with vibrant cities like Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Penang, Langkawi, and Semporna attracting the most visitors.

Asia is the hottest travel destination during this Labour Day Holiday period among travellers worldwide, with cities such as Tokyo, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Seoul and Taipei leading the pack in holiday momentum.

Malaysia Travel Trends

Trip.com Group’s data shows that the most popular Malaysian cities for travellers besides Kuala Lumpur during the Labour Day Holiday are Kota Kinabalu, Penang, Langkawi and Semporna. Interestingly, Tawau is among the top five most popular cities for Chinese travellers, which is home to world’s third largest cocoa producing area and offers both land and sea experiences.

The most popular Malaysian attractions during this holiday period are Mataking Island and Mabul Island, the Petronas Twin Towers, and The Stadthuys. This illustrates the diverse preferences of holidaymakers, which range from scuba diving in the state of Sabah to witnessing the marvellous city landscape in Kuala Lumpur, to immersing oneself in Malacca’s multi-cultural heritage.

Ms Stephane Thong, General Manager, Trip.com Malaysia, said: “Travellers to Malaysia are seeking unique experiences such as historical and beach tourism. The country is well-positioned to take advantage of popular travel periods such as Labour Day as we offer a diverse range of tourism options for travellers, which can all be booked on Trip.com’s all-in-one platform. We are happy to showcase the many sights of Malaysia to the world, through campaigns such as our recently launched SUPER SEA campaign.”
