Turkish Tourism Starts 2020 with Record Tourist Arrivals

Turkey’s tourism sector starts 2020 with an all-time record in the number of tourist arrivals visiting the country in January.

During the first month of the year, a total of 1,787,435 international travelers visited Turkey, an increase of 16.11% over January 2019.

Bulgaria named the top source market with an increase of 21.22% to 162,199 travelers. Georgia ranked second with an increase of 18.06% to 132,674 travelers. Russians followed Georgian travelers with a 42.40% increase to 130.608 travelers. Germany and Iran followed Russian travelers.

 

 

Only 0.86% of all travelers (15,315) are represented as overnight stays.

Istanbul tops the entry point for travelers. 1,017,034 travelers arrived in Turkey via Istanbul, Edirne ranked 2nd with 152,976 travelers. Antalya welcomed 143,679 travelers. Artvin and Ankara ranked 4th and 5th respectively.
