New Budget-Friendly Flights between Birmingham and Istanbul

Türkiye’s low cost carrier Pegasus Airlines has announced the inauguration of a thrice-weekly service connecting Birmingham Airport (BHX) in the United Kingdom with Istanbul’s Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (SAW), starting from December 21.

This new route is set to bolster connectivity between the UK and Türkiye, with the allure of budget-friendly one-way fares beginning at just £39.99.

The schedule for this new connection will see flights operating on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, offering passengers a convenient gateway to over 130 destinations across 49 countries, including key locations in Asia, Africa, and Europe. The SAW hub of Pegasus Airlines is a strategic base that links an expansive network of cities such as Dubai, Doha, Tehran, and Riyadh, as well as sought-after tourist destinations like Antalya and Bodrum in Türkiye.

Nick Barton, CEO of Birmingham Airport, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership with Pegasus Airlines, a carrier recognized for its low-cost operations and commitment to sustainable growth. Barton anticipates that the new service will attract a diverse clientele, including vacationers, pilgrims, business travelers, and those visiting friends and family, leveraging Pegasus’s comprehensive network spanning Asia, Europe, and Africa.

Pegasus Airlines has been on a rapid upward trajectory since the pandemic, having fully restored its operational capacity and profitability by 2022. The airline’s dedication to environmental sustainability is evident in its pledge to IATA’s Net Zero by 2050 commitment. It is actively pursuing decarbonization through investments in fuel-efficient, new-generation aircraft, boasting one of the youngest fleets in Europe with an average age of just 4.6 years as of September 2023.

Birmingham Airport resonates with Pegasus Airlines’ green initiatives, targeting to achieve carbon net-zero status by 2033. BHX is taking significant steps towards this goal with the ongoing installation of 12,000 solar panels along its northeast boundary, which is projected to fulfill 20% of the airport’s electricity needs by May 2024.

This partnership marks a significant milestone for both Pegasus Airlines and Birmingham Airport as they embark on a journey of sustainable expansion and enhanced connectivity. With affordable fares and a strong commitment to the environment, the new BHX-SAW route is set to become a preferred choice for international travelers.
