Deutsche Hospitality Appoints Thomas Wilken

Thomas Wilken

42-year old Thomas Wilken has been appointed General Manager of the 137-room MAXX by Steigenberger Sanssouci Potsdam with effect from 1 June 2020.

In his new capacity, Mr. Wilken will be responsible for all operational and administrative business areas of the hotel. The previous Director Thomas Schneider is leaving the company at the end of June in order to relocate to Belgium. Mr. Schneider will, however, be making his experience and expertise available to his successor in the meantime.

Thomas Wilken has gained valuable experience of his own during the past few years as a Director of Operations and Executive Assistant Manager. His employers have included the Marriott and Kempinski hotel groups. After completing his upper secondary school leaving certificate, Mr. Wilken trained as a cook at the Sansibar Restaurant on the Island of Sylt before embarking upon a hotel management training programme with Marriott International. "Thomas Wilken is a passionate hotelier who brings extensive industry knowledge and a lot of experience in the upscale hospitality industry. We are very much looking forward to working with him and would like to extend a warm welcome to him. With Thomas Schneider, a great colleague and a highly respected manager is leaving the company. We wish him all the best in his private and professional life,” said Robert Boller, Managing Director of MAXX Hotel GmbH.

MAXX by Steigenberger combines the essential aspects of a hotel product with the highest standards of quality and service. The hotel operated by the brand in Potsdam houses impressive guest rooms and suites with modern furnishings and fittings. It provides an ideal starting point for leisure and business travellers wishing to explore the surrounding area. Potsdam has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site thanks to the city’s diverse cultural landscape. Sanssouci Palace is only a five-minute walk away, and further popular sights such as Babelsberg Film Park and the Church of Peace are also easily accessible. The MAXX by Steigenberger Sanssouci Potsdam celebrated its official Grand Opening in October 2019 following an extensive programme of renovation works. The hotel re-opened to guests on 25 May after a break occasioned by the corona epidemic.
