In a dazzling ceremony held in Singapore on Tuesday, 17 October 2023, the annual list of The World’s 50 Best Bars was unveiled.
Sponsored by Perrier, this year’s event marked the first time the awards were held in Asia, celebrating the crème de la crème of the international drinks sector.
Topping the list was Barcelona’s “Sips,” which was not only named The Best Bar in Europe but also clinched the title of The World’s Best Bar. Located in Barcelona’s L’Antiga Esquerra de l’Eixample district, Sips is the brainchild of industry giants Simone Caporale and Marc Álvarez. Their combined expertise has given birth to a unique ‘drinkery house’ that marries elegant design with avant-garde mixology techniques.
William Drew, Director of Content for 50 Best, lauded Sips for its innovative approach, stating, “Sips seamlessly translates contemporary innovation and technical precision into a playful cocktail programme, accompanied by the warmest hospitality.”
The venue’s design is a testament to its commitment to immersive experiences. Instead of a traditional bar, a futuristic workstation takes center stage, eliminating barriers between guests and bartenders and emphasizing the human aspect of service.
London continued its reign as a cocktail capital, boasting five bars on the list, more than any other city. However, Barcelona’s dominance was evident with two entries in the top five: Sips and Paradiso.
Elisa Gregori, Perrier Global Business Unit Director, expressed pride in supporting The World’s 50 Best Bars. She highlighted Perrier’s longstanding relationship with the global bar community, celebrating their relentless pursuit of crafting the perfect drink.
The awards also recognized bars from diverse regions, from New York to Mexico City, and from Bangkok to Tokyo. Special awards were given to bars and individuals who have shown exceptional talent, innovation, and commitment to the industry.
The World’s 50 Best Bars list is compiled through votes from an academy of 680 drinks experts, ensuring a fair and comprehensive ranking. This year’s list, reflecting the diverse and dynamic landscape of the global bar industry, is sure to inspire cocktail enthusiasts worldwide.
