Hyatt Hotels Corporation and Inmobilia Desarrollos announce the opening of Hyatt Place Mérida / Vía Montejo, a new 142-room hotel located in the mixed-use Vía Montejo development in the Mexican state of Yucatán. The property begins operations as the second Hyatt-branded hotel in the state, joining Hyatt Regency Mérida, and expands the company’s presence in a fast-growing tourism and business hub.
The hotel opens within Vía Montejo’s award-winning complex, offering modern guestrooms, 24-hour dining options, and access to transportation links including the Tren Maya and IE-Tram. Its location near the U.S. Consulate and Mérida International Airport positions the hotel to serve both domestic and international travelers seeking connectivity to universities, commercial areas, and regional attractions.
Hotel Features and Brand Positioning
The 11-story Hyatt Place Mérida / Vía Montejo features city-view accommodations designed for business and leisure stays, with guestrooms that include separate areas for sleeping, working, and relaxing. Each room incorporates the brand’s Cozy Corner sofa-sleeper and a seating area intended to support longer or multitasking stays. Public spaces include a lobby designed for socializing and casual work, aligned with Hyatt Place’s emphasis on flexibility and comfort.
Dining options include free breakfast at the Breakfast Bar, serving hot items and fresh fruit. Additional food and beverage offerings are available at the 24/7 Market and The Placery, the brand’s lobby bar concept featuring specialty coffees, wines, cocktails, and informal lounge seating. Complimentary self-parking, a 24/7 fitness center, and an outdoor terrace and pool provide added amenities for guests seeking extended or mixed-purpose visits.
Strategic Location in Vía Montejo
Vía Montejo sits at the end of Prolongación Paseo Montejo, a major avenue in Mérida’s northern district and a center of new commercial and residential development. The project has been recognized as the Best Mixed-Use Development in Mexico by the International Property Awards. Its masterplan includes high-end housing, corporate offices, retail areas anchored by the Harbor Lifestyle Mall, and future facilities for the U.S. Consulate and Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The hotel’s proximity to the Tren Maya corridor offers regional access to archaeological sites, coastal destinations, and major cities including Cancún and Tulum. Urban mobility options, such as the IE-Tram route and local transport links, add to its commuter and visitor appeal. According to the announcement, the location is intended to support a broad range of travelers, including those visiting for government appointments, business engagements, and regional tourism.
Baltazar Pille, General Manager, said the opening supports Mérida’s ongoing growth. “As Mérida continues to grow and thrive economically, we are honored to be part of the Vía Montejo development and contribute to this momentum by welcoming the first Hyatt Place hotel to the state of Yucatán.” He added that the property’s design and social spaces “are ready to meet the needs of today’s dynamic traveler.”
The hotel features 1,077 square feet of meeting and event space that can accommodate business gatherings and celebrations. Two meeting rooms can be combined for larger events and offer access to an outdoor area, customizable catering menus, free Wi-Fi, and modern audiovisual equipment. These additions position the property to serve Mérida’s expanding market for conferences and corporate functions.
Inmobilia, the Yucatán-based real estate developer that owns the hotel, emphasizes the project’s role in regional growth. The company states that it aims to support investment and sustainable development through large-scale projects, and its Vía Montejo complex reflects this strategy. The development integrates residential, commercial, leisure, and public services in a single environment designed to enhance quality of life for residents and visitors.
The opening of Hyatt Place Mérida / Vía Montejo adds new capacity to Mérida’s hospitality segment at a time of rising interest in southeastern Mexico, driven by transportation expansion and increased domestic and international travel. Hyatt’s latest addition is positioned to benefit from both leisure and business demand as connectivity improves across the Yucatán Peninsula.
