Thompson Hotels heads to Seville with a historic new address

Thompson Hotels is set to open its first Andalusia property in Seville, with Thompson Seville scheduled to debut in late 2026. The hotel will occupy the landmark La Gavidia building in Plaza de la Concordia, in the heart of the city’s historic centre.

The opening marks Thompson Hotels’ second property in Spain, following Thompson Madrid. The Seville hotel will offer 101 guestrooms and suites, a rooftop pool and fitness centre, event spaces, and a dining programme developed with Grupo Manolo Mayo.

“Seville is one of those cities that leaves a lasting impression on you. It has an incredible mix of history, culture, creativity, and energy, and that’s exactly the kind of destination where Thompson belongs,” said Amar Lalvani, President and Creative Director, The Lifestyle Group, Hyatt.

“For us, the goal was never to bring a Thompson template to Seville, but to create a hotel that could only exist in Seville,” he said. “From the restoration of La Gavidia to the local partnerships and experiences, this hotel is rooted in the spirit of the city while delivering the sophisticated, social atmosphere that defines Thompson.”

A hotel in La Gavidia

La Gavidia is one of Seville’s most recognisable examples of modern architecture. It was originally designed by Ramón Montserrat Ballesté and is closely associated with the city’s Modern Movement. Design studio Proyecto Singular is transforming the building into a hotel while preserving its architectural character.

101 guestrooms and suites

The hotel’s 101 guestrooms and suites will combine warm materials, natural textures and artisanal finishes with references to Andalusian identity. Accommodation options will range from city-view guestrooms and terrace suites to the Thompson Suite, which includes a private terrace and views across the city.

A rooftop fitness centre overlooking Seville will also be available to guests.

Gastronomy with a Sevillian soul

Dining at Thompson Seville will be developed with Grupo Manolo Mayo, a restaurant group known for its focus on Andalusian cuisine and seasonal ingredients. Beloved local restaurant Mayo Sevilla will close its existing location and reopen inside the hotel under the name Casa Mayo. The space has been designed by architect Pablo Baruc.

“Joining Thompson Seville marks an exciting new chapter for us,” said Miguel Ángel Álvarez, Head of Grupo Manolo Mayo. “Casa Mayo will carry forward the traditions, flavors, and hospitality that have defined our restaurants for years, while introducing them to a new audience in one of the city’s most significant buildings.”

“We are proud to be part of a project that is so deeply connected to Seville and look forward to welcoming both residents and visitors when the hotel opens,” he said.

On the ground floor, the Lobby Bar will operate as an all-day space serving coffee, aperitifs and cocktails, including a daily Sherry Hour built around Jerez wines, small bites and music at around 6 p.m. The rooftop Pool Deck and Bar will offer a pool, lounge area and a menu of spritzes, chilled wines and Andalusian-influenced small bites.

Event spaces

Thompson Seville will include 240 square metres of event and meeting space on the ground floor, made up of four independent rooms that can be connected, along with integrated audiovisual equipment and an interior patio. The spaces are designed to accommodate corporate meetings, presentations and social events including weddings.

With its opening planned for late 2026, Thompson Seville will bring architecture, gastronomy and design together inside one of the city’s most significant buildings.
