New Director for Vienna Convention Bureau

Christian Woronka is moving from Cologne to Vienna to succeed Christian Mutschlechner as director of the Vienna Convention Bureau in 2019.

After 34 years of service to the Vienna Tourist Board, Mutschlechner will retire in February.

Christian Woronka, to date director of the Cologne Convention Bureau, was selected in an international recruitment process as the most suitable candidate to run the Vienna Convention Bureau at the Vienna Tourist Board (VCB). In this function, from 2019 he will be responsible for management and consolidation of the Convention Bureau and Market Management departments, and for expansion of conventions and congresses, corporate meetings and incentives. He will also further develop the Vienna brand in the meetings industry area.

Woronka, 37, studied geography with a focus on tourism. He has been working for the Cologne Convention Bureau since 2008 and has been its director since 2012. He has focused primarily on digitization and public relations work. “A top priority for me was forging the link between Cologne as a congress location and topics in science and business. Together with my city partners, I succeeded in this endeavor for example with the acquisition of the World Pathology Congress and the Planetary Congress.” One of Woronka’s prior responsibilities was Tourism Noosa in Australia.

Vienna Tourist Board’s CEO Norbert Kettner said: “I would like to extend a warm welcome to Vienna to Christian Woronka! He will continue the successful work of his predecessor, maintain Vienna’s position as an international leader among congress metropolises, and place new emphasis on corporate meetings and digitization of the customer’s experience as our conference and congress guest.”
