Veteran hotelier Christian Metzner moves from Malaysia to Singapore to manage W Singapore – Sentosa Cove.
The saying that “If you fall in love with a country and its people, that makes any country warm to you,” could not be more true for Metzner, who is no stranger to Singapore, having frequented for both business and leisure, returning many times to explore places loved and recommended by locals.
“It is always exciting to embark on a new journey. I am humbled and honored to be given the opportunity to lead the team here at W Singapore – Sentosa Cove. Singapore is culturally diverse and there is so much life in this city. You can feel the pulsing energy everywhere you go, and that is the same kind of dynamism we want to bring to our Resort guests,” he says.
Hailing from Germany, Metzner’s career with Marriott International, Inc. began in 1996 at the Arabella Sheraton Complex South Germany in Munich, and since then he has held numerous positions within the company, including leadership roles in Beijing, Tianjin, Langkawi, and most recently in Malaysia as General Manager at W Kuala Lumpur.
With an extensive background in Sales, Marketing and Revenue management, Metzner has a clear understanding on the evolving luxury travel expectations and has been forging business strategies in competitive fields around the region. But to him, all is for naught without first taking on a people-centric approach to things.
“Our people-first culture resonates deeply with me. It is important to recognize that each of our Talent contributes to the overall success of the business. Hand-picked for their character as much as their experience, everyone is unique at W. From Stylists (Housekeeping) to Welcome (Front Office), and our very own W Insider to share What’s New/Next, just to name a few. W Talents are our cast of hand-picked performers who go the extra mile to bring the Resort’s signature Whatever/Whenever® production to life.”
When he is not at W Singapore, Metzner enjoys spending time with family and friends, visiting new restaurants and bars, cycling, running, or winding down at home with a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc.
