Avianca is Adding Millions of Seats for Summer Travel Across the Americas

Avianca is offering more than 71,000 flights and more than 12.5 million seats during the midyear peak travel season from June to August. The airline said the schedule covers more than 160 routes connecting over 80 destinations in more than 25 countries across the Americas and Europe.

The carrier, part of Abra Group, said it had strengthened its international network with seasonal routes and extra capacity in key North American and Central American markets. The expanded schedule includes restored flights, added seasonal services and more connections for travellers during one of the busiest periods of the year.

Among the main additions is the resumption of direct service between New York and Pereira, with four weekly flights from June to August. The airline will also operate seasonal routes between Cali and New York, Cali and Miami, Guatemala City and Chicago, Guatemala City and San Francisco, Medellín and Orlando, and San Salvador and Montreal.

Avianca is also adding connections from San Salvador to Las Vegas, Chicago and Madrid. The airline said the increased capacity is designed to meet travel demand during the summer season while giving passengers more options across its network.

David Alemán, Avianca’s sales director for Colombia and South America, said the airline’s network and service options help it respond to seasonal demand.

“At Avianca, we have an extensive network and a distinct service offering that allow us to meet demand this season. We provide travelers with a range of travel options, from Economy to Business Class, designed to meet their needs,” said David Alemán, Avianca’s sales director for Colombia and South America.

The airline expects Medellín, Cali, Cartagena, Barranquilla and Pereira to be among the domestic destinations with the highest projected demand this season. Its leading international destinations include Guayaquil, Quito, Madrid, Lima, Sao Paulo and Mexico City.

The increase comes as major sporting events add further pressure to travel demand across North America. Avianca said it is operating more than 400 weekly flights directly connecting the United States, Mexico and Canada with Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala and Costa Rica as part of the global soccer celebration.

The airline said its network gives travellers access to 10 of the tournament’s 16 host cities. These include Miami, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Mexico City, Monterrey and Toronto.

The expanded schedule is expected to support both leisure travel and trips by fans heading to championship destinations. It also strengthens Avianca’s role in connecting Latin America with major cities in North America and Europe during the peak season.

Avianca has also issued travel advice for passengers flying during the busy period. The airline urged customers to book through official channels, including avianca.com, Lifemiles.com, the Contact Center, ticket offices or authorised agencies.

The carrier warned passengers to be cautious of offers that appear too good to be true, particularly very low fares promoted on social media or messaging apps. It said travellers should verify the website URL before making any payment to help avoid fraud.

Passengers are encouraged to check their flight status through avianca.com, the official Avianca app or notifications sent by email and WhatsApp. Avianca also recommends checking in from 48 hours before departure, or from 24 hours before flights to or from the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada.

The airline advises travellers to arrive at the airport two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights. It also said customers should check in advance that passports, visas and any required certificates are valid and in order.

Avianca reminded passengers that power banks are allowed only in the cabin. Customers may carry a maximum of two devices of up to 100 Wh each, and the devices must remain under the passenger’s care and be individually protected.

Electronic cigarettes and lithium batteries must also be carried in a carry-on bag. Passengers are advised to keep these items visible while in use, avoid connecting them to aircraft ports and travel only with devices that are in good condition and from a reliable source.
