Collapsed roof of Delhi Airport, people looking away from the terminal

Chaos at Delhi Airport: Roof Collapse Sparks Flight Suspensions

Heavy rain in New Delhi led to a tragic incident at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Friday. A section of the roof at Terminal 1 collapsed due to the torrential downpour.

Local media reported that one person lost their life and four others were injured in the incident. Authorities confirmed the roof collapse happened around 5 am local time.

The Civil Aviation Ministry announced a temporary suspension of all flights departing from Terminal 1. Airlines such as IndiGo and SpiceJet canceled their flights due to the incident.

In a statement, the airport mentioned that flights at Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 were operating normally. However, departing flights from Terminal 1 were canceled until 2 pm local time.

The heavy rains caused severe waterlogging in many parts of New Delhi. Vehicles were seen submerged under bridges, and poor drainage systems were blamed for the water buildup.
