Flights to Alicante on mainland Spain will be launched for summer 2020 from Teesside International Airport as another new route is offered by Flybe franchise partner Eastern Airways from the north east airport.
This latest announcement for Teesside Airport serving Spain’s Costa Blanca follows the airline’s recent fleet expansion plans introducing larger Embraer e-jets, along with the new network of Teesside routes to Cardiff, Belfast City, Dublin, Southampton, London City, seasonal Isle of Man service complementing its existing Aberdeen route.
The new twice-weekly flights to Alicante will commence on Friday 17 July and will operate until 11 September as an initial entry into the leisure market, with convenient departure times from Teesside at 8am and Alicante at 11.50am local time.
Alicante is home to a historic Mediterranean port and the second-largest Valencian city, but is also the gateway to the Costa Blanca with its white-sand beaches and over 200km of coastline and the popular resorts of Benidorm, Altea and Murcia. Booking.com and Hotels.com hotel deals in Alicante.
Fares to Alicante will start from £119 one way, including taxes and charges and will be bookable from Monday 2 March at www.flybe.com
Roger Hage, Eastern Airways’ General Manager Commercial & Operations, said: “This is fantastic news that we are in a position to offer an initial summer 2020 programme of sun flights to Alicante from Teesside. This is all part of our growing partnership with Teesside with major plans for 2021, aside from the six domestic and Irish new routes we’ve already announced enhancing regional connectivity.”
Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “I’m over the moon to be able to announce this new Alicante service ahead of the first anniversary of buying the airport. From this summer, people in Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool will be able to fly from their local airport to the Spanish City and get to the seaside from Teesside quickly and easily.

In the past year, we’ve announced flights that are brilliant for business, as well as popular locations for holidaymakers, and we’re continuing to add to these routes.”
Cardiff flights from Teesside commenced on 10 February. Belfast City, Dublin and Southampton start on 9 March, followed by London City on 27 April and the seasonal Isle of Man flights from 30 May.
