flydubai, the Dubai-based airline, has announced the start of its daily flights to Penang and Langkawi, marking a significant expansion in Southeast Asia.

This launch positions flydubai as the first UAE national carrier to offer direct connections to these two Malaysian destinations, enhancing the travel options for passengers seeking to explore the region.

The inaugural flights to Penang International Airport and Langkawi International Airport on 10 February were celebrated with traditional water cannon salutes, signaling the start of this new service.

The launch coincides with the Chinese New Year, offering travelers an opportunity to partake in the region’s festive celebrations.

This expansion brings the number of flydubai’s Southeast Asian destinations to four, including Krabi and Pattaya in Thailand.

Sudhir Sreedharan, Senior Vice President at flydubai, expressed excitement about the airline’s growth in Southeast Asia with the addition of Penang and Langkawi. flydubai’s commitment to connecting underserved markets is evident in this expansion, aiming to provide more travel opportunities within the beautiful Southeast Asian region.

The timing of the inaugural flight allows tourists to experience the vibrant Chinese New Year festivities in Penang, immersing themselves in the city’s rich cultural tapestry.

Penang and Langkawi, known for their heritage and natural beauty, offer a mix of adventure, culture, and relaxation to visitors from the UAE and beyond.

Penang State EXCO for Tourism and Creative Economy, YB Wong Hon Wai, welcomed the new flydubai service, highlighting its significance in connecting Dubai with Penang and Langkawi. This new route is expected to become a key international connection, promoting Penang as a premier destination for travelers.

With its blend of cultural heritage and natural attractions, Penang and Langkawi promise a diverse experience for flydubai passengers. From the artistic streets of George Town to the serene beaches of Langkawi, these destinations cater to a wide range of interests.

flydubai will deploy its latest aircraft on these routes, offering passengers premium onboard experiences, including lie-flat seats in Business Class and optimally designed seats in Economy Class. This ensures a comfortable journey to these Malaysian gems.

Flights to Langkawi will include a brief stop in Penang, facilitating convenient travel options for those looking to explore both destinations.

Starting 10 February 2024, daily flights will operate from Terminal 3, Dubai International Airport, with competitive fares in both Business and Economy classes.
