Penang is strengthening its position as one of Asia’s fastest-growing business events destinations, backed by record industry growth, expanding infrastructure and a major pipeline of conferences and trade events for 2026.
The Malaysian state hosted 3,391 business events in 2025, up 64.7% from 2,059 events in 2024, according to the Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB). Delegate numbers reached 451,198 while total room nights climbed to 824,505, generating an estimated RM1.91 billion in Economic Event Impact for the state.
The growth reflects increasing international demand for Penang across sectors including medical and healthcare, advanced manufacturing, electronics, digital innovation and association meetings. Officials said the state’s improving connectivity, accommodation capacity and industry ecosystem continue to attract higher-value meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions.
PCEB has also launched a new campaign called Penang Inspiring Meetings as part of the national Visit Malaysia 2026 initiative. The campaign aims to attract more conference delegates, business visitors and incentive groups while promoting both Penang island and mainland destinations.
The bureau is marking its 10th anniversary in 2026 after being established in 2016 to develop Penang’s business events industry. PCEB said it plans to focus on strengthening Penang’s international profile, building industry partnerships and supporting long-term sector growth.
A major part of that strategy is the launch of BE Associate, a talent development programme designed to prepare students for careers in the business events sector. The initiative will host monthly seminars for up to 50 students per session and provide industry exposure, volunteer opportunities and practical learning experiences.
Penang’s 2026 calendar will also feature two flagship industry events designed to strengthen the state’s global business tourism profile.
Penang International Travel Exchange (PITE) 2026 will take place from 27 to 29 October 2026. Organisers describe it as Malaysia’s only homegrown business events and travel trade platform, bringing together international buyers and Malaysian sellers through structured business-to-business meetings.
The 2026 edition will expand beyond Malaysia by welcoming more international exhibitors, convention bureaus, Professional Conference Organisers and Professional Exhibition Organisers.
Another key event, BE @ Penang 2026, is scheduled for 10 to 11 December 2026 at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre. The conference, themed “BE The Multiverse,” will focus on collaboration between industries, technology and sustainability leaders.
The event marks the conference’s 10th edition and aims to position Penang as a platform for thought leadership and cross-sector exchange in the business events industry.
PCEB said Penang is entering 2026 with strong momentum as it seeks to position business events as a driver of economic growth, knowledge exchange and industry development for both Penang and Malaysia.
