Air Europa will relocate its New York operations to the New Terminal One at John F. Kennedy International Airport when the new international terminal opens its first gates in 2026, strengthening links between the United States and Spain.
The move marks another milestone in the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s $19 billion redevelopment of JFK Airport. Air Europa currently operates daily nonstop flights between New York JFK and Madrid-Barajas Airport and will become the eighth SkyTeam airline to operate from the New Terminal One.
Operating a hub in Madrid, Air Europa is part of Spain’s Globalia Group and serves 55 destinations worldwide. The airline said the move supports its long-term growth plans in New York while improving the passenger experience for travelers flying between Europe and the Americas.
Jennifer Aument, Chief Executive Officer of The New Terminal One at JFK, said: “We are delighted that Air Europa has chosen to join the New Terminal One, strengthening our position as the terminal of choice for international airlines serving New York. Our partnership will provide Air Europa’s customers a seamless and efficient travel experience at JFK, while enhancing connectivity to leading destinations in Spain and Europe on Air Europa’s network.”
Richard Clark, Chief Executive Officer of Air Europa, said: “New York has long been one of Air Europa’s most strategic markets, and our move to the New Terminal One clearly reinforces that commitment.”
He added: “Welcoming our passengers in this new terminal is a clear reflection of our dedication to this route and of our ongoing efforts to provide the highest standards of comfort, efficiency and overall travel experience when flying between the Americas and Europe.”
The New Terminal One is being developed on the south side of JFK Airport on the sites currently occupied by Terminal 1 and the former Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. The first phase is expected to open in 2026 and will include new arrivals and departures halls alongside 14 new gates.
Once completed, the terminal will span 2.6 million square feet with 23 gates, making it the largest terminal at JFK Airport. Developers say the facility aims to achieve a 5-star Skytrax rating.
Air Europa joins a growing list of international carriers that have selected the New Terminal One as their future base at JFK. Other airlines set to operate from the terminal include Air France, KLM, Etihad Airways, Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, Korean Air, Air China, Saudia and Philippine Airlines.
The New Terminal One project forms part of a broader transformation of JFK Airport that includes two new terminals, two expanded terminals, a new ground transportation center and a redesigned roadway network.
