A major transformation is coming to John F. Kennedy International Airport’s Terminal 5. JetBlue, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and Fraport USA have unveiled an ambitious plan to revamp and modernize the terminal by the end of 2026.
With a strong focus on enhancing the passenger experience, the redesign will introduce over 40 new concessions, immersive art installations, and a center concourse inspired by New York’s iconic parks.
The upgrade aligns with the Port Authority’s $19 billion JFK redevelopment project, ensuring the airport remains a world-class travel hub. The new additions will reflect New York’s rich culture, diverse food scene, and creative energy, making Terminal 5 a destination in itself for travelers passing through.
A Taste of New York: 40+ New Dining & Retail Options
JetBlue’s flagship terminal is set to become a culinary hotspot, spotlighting locally owned businesses and iconic NYC flavors. Travelers will soon be able to enjoy offerings from renowned brands such as Eataly, The Halal Guys, Shake Shack, Serafina, Jacob’s Pickles, DiFara Pizza, and Nom Wah. Additionally, the project will include a mix of global brands and small, locally rooted businesses to reflect the authentic character of New York City.
With over 18 new food and beverage options, passengers will have more choices than ever before. Whether craving a classic New York bagel from Leon’s Bagels, specialty coffee from Birch Coffee, or a craft cocktail from Mister Paradise, travelers will be able to enjoy an elevated dining experience before their flight.
“When it opened, Terminal 5 set a new standard for customer-focused airport design that reflected our mission of bringing humanity back to air travel,” said Marty St. George, president of JetBlue.
“Now, in support of the Port Authority’s plan to redevelop JFK, we look forward to further enhancing the experience for all who travel through this world-class terminal. This isn’t just about new dining and shopping—it’s about bringing the energy of New York into the terminal. From local flavors to spaces that capture the city we love, we’re making T5 more uniquely New York while staying unmistakably JetBlue.”
“We are proud to build upon our collaboration with JetBlue and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to reimagine and elevate JFK Terminal 5,” said Sabine Trenk, CEO of Fraport USA Inc.
“Together, we share a bold vision of transforming the customer experience — delivering a world-class, dynamic retail and dining destination that captivates customers while driving economic growth and innovation.”
“JetBlue and Fraport’s commitment to delivering world-class amenities and concessions to our customers aligns with the Port Authority’s goal of transforming JFK into one of the world’s great global gateways,” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton.
“Creating a uniquely New York sense of place at JFK through the additions of iconic local concessions, art and design will make this terminal a memorable part of the customer journey through our region.”
“JetBlue customers traveling through Terminal 5 will soon enjoy authentic products and dining experiences that represent the best of what our region has to offer,” said Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole.
“These improvements by JetBlue and Fraport USA embrace our vision of a world-class customer experience that will serve as the front door of this region to the rest of the world.”
A Terminal Designed to Reflect New York’s Parks
At the heart of the renovation is a redesigned center concourse inspired by New York’s famous public spaces. The new concourse will feature lush greenery, park benches, concrete chess tables, and warm lighting, creating a relaxing atmosphere where travelers can unwind before boarding their flights.
Beyond aesthetics, the revamped concourse will serve as an interactive hub, hosting pop-up experiences, live performances, and cultural exhibitions to bring the vibrancy of New York’s arts scene into the terminal. The idea is to create a unique “New York sense of place”, giving travelers a preview of the city’s dynamic culture even if they’re just passing through.
Art & Creativity Take Center Stage
Terminal 5 will also become a showcase for local artists, featuring over 30 works from New York-based creators. The airport experience is evolving beyond just check-in counters and gates—JetBlue’s vision is to make T5 a destination in its own right, blending art, design, and functionality to create a one-of-a-kind space for travelers.
Supporting Local Businesses and Economic Growth
In addition to elevating the passenger experience, the project emphasizes economic growth and small business support. The new concessions will include joint-venture partnerships with small and minority-owned businesses under the federal Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (ACDBE) program.
These partnerships will help local entrepreneurs gain access to the airport industry, providing new opportunities for businesses that might not have otherwise been able to establish themselves in a major airport setting. Some of the selected local partners include Neir’s Tavern (Queens), Sugar Hill Creamery (Manhattan), and The Nourish Spot (Queens).
The Future of JetBlue at JFK
JetBlue has long considered JFK Terminal 5 as its flagship hub, and this investment ensures it remains a leading airport experience. The airline is also expanding into Terminal 6, which will seamlessly connect to Terminal 5 and feature a state-of-the-art customer lounge.
With the Terminal 5 refresh set for completion by 2026, JetBlue and its partners are making sure that JFK continues to set a high standard for airport design, passenger comfort, and traveler experience.
