Malaysia Airlines Resumes Direct Flight from Kuala Lumpur to Brisbane

Malaysia Airlines has resumed direct flights from Kuala Lumpur International Airport to Brisbane Airport in Queensland, Australia, reinstating this key connection to meet growing travel demand.

The flight was also special as it featured the Malaysia Airlines Manchester United aircraft livery, making the inaugural Kuala Lumpur–Brisbane service even more memorable.

The resumption was met with enthusiastic response, with the inaugural services achieving strong load factors – 86% on the outbound flight to Brisbane and 99% on the return flight to Kuala Lumpur, reflecting robust demand for the reinstated route.

With the resumption of this service, Malaysia Airlines now offers direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to five Australian cities, reinforcing its commitment to the market and complementing increased frequencies to Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, and Adelaide.

The airline has already begun introducing its all-new A330neo fleet on selected Australia routes, offering enhanced passenger comfort, improved fuel efficiency, and state-of-the-art cabin features. By the first quarter of 2026, Malaysia Airlines will operate the youngest widebody fleet into Australasia.

Operating five times per week between Brisbane and Kuala Lumpur aboard an A330-300 aircraft, the route enhances connectivity across Southeast Asia and Europe. Queensland exporters will also regain a key link into Asian markets, unlocking strengthened opportunities for trade in Malaysia, India and beyond.

The new Brisbane – Kuala Lumpur flight opens the door for Queenslanders to explore Malaysia’s vibrant capital, from its historic temples, to bustling shopping districts including Bukit Bintang, as well as iconic landmarks including Petronas Twin Towers.

Beyond its bustling cities, Malaysia offers tropical island paradises such as Langkawi and Penang along with rainforest adventures in UNESCO World Heritage listed national parks.

The route will bring more than 75,000 inbound seats each year and is expected to generate A$54 million for the local economy annually.

Brisbane Airport is now connected to 35 international destinations with international travel these summer holidays expected to rise 9% on last year. A record 25 million passengers are expected through Brisbane Airport this year.
