Taiwan-based China Airlines has unveiled its second Pokemon-themed aircraft in partnership with The Pokemon Company, the “Pikachu Jet CI2”. The Airbus A350-900 features a vibrant livery of flying Pokémon under the “Flying Out to the World” theme and will enter service on 2 April.
Initially assigned to the Taoyuan (Taipei) – Tokyo (Narita) and Taoyuan – Seattle routes, the aircraft will also serve long haul routes such as Phoenix, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Auckland. Taoyuan, approximately 40 km west of Taipei, is the busiest and largest airport in Taiwan, serving Taipei and northern Taiwan.
The first Flying Pikachu-themed aircraft was launched in 2022, and it was so well received by passengers that the airline decided to expand the programme with a second aircraft. China Airlines said a 33-person painting and decoration team created the aircraft design.
Pokémon is a massive Japanese media franchise launched in 1996, spanning video games, animated series, films, and the Trading Card Game. Centred on capturing and training fantasy creatures with special powers, it is the world’s highest-grossing media franchise.
Can you spot the Pokemon?

Thirteen Pokémon grace the fuselage of the Pikachu Jet CI2. The lively procession is led by Hoppip, heralding the arrival of spring, alongside Flying Pikachu and Jumpluff. A Dratini catches a ride on Dragonite’s back, while Beautifly and Vivillon spread their wings — a respectful nod to Taiwan’s reputation as the “Butterfly Kingdom”. As Swablu and Altaria take to the skies, Skiploom is lifted by the breeze to join Cresselia and Clefairy, joining together as they fly across the world.
It includes auspicious cloud and floral tile motifs, conveying the elegance of Taiwanese craftsmanship, incorporating elements that symbolise good fortune and happiness.
The unique pastel palette perfectly complements China Airlines’ classic plum blossom logo on the tail fin. For an added touch of fun, passengers can search for Pokémon hidden in the intricate tile patterns.
Onboard amenities
The theme extends to airport check-in and in-flight items, including dining tray liners, snacks, paper cups, napkins, seat headrest covers, pillowcases and flight attendants’ aprons, all featuring Pokemon and Taiwanese-style tile patterns.
Every passenger on this dedicated flight will have a chance to receive exclusive gifts, such as a charming Pikachu ballpoint pen or sticky notes. In addition, China Airlines will progressively introduce these themed onboard amenities on other flights.
