Karl Lagerfeld to create his own fashion design hotel

Fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld plans to create a hotel brand using his name. In 2017 the first “Karl-Lagerfeld-Hotel” will open in the Chinese gambling metropolis Macau – with 220 rooms, spa and fine-dining restaurants. Thereby the top fashion designer sets new accents in the global hotel trend.

Other fashion and lifestyle designers such as Armani, Cerrutti and Bulgari have created “their” hotels by now. TOPHOTELPROJECTS, the worldwide leading provider of global b2b hotel data, has listed the current market development.

Karl Lagerfeld plans to develop several hotels and luxury apartments to extend his company’s business area step by step. He already gained first experiences due to his “Karl Lagerfeld Suite” in the Schlosshotel Grundewald in Berlin.

Fashion design hotels are worldwide in great demand. After properties in Dubai and Milano, Armani Hotels is further extending its presence in Europe. At the famous Admiralty Arch in London’s prime location a new high-end-luxury hotel with 100 rooms and suites will arise early-2017. Bulgari Hotels – currently located in Milano, on Bali and in Tokyo – is developing three new properties: in 2017 an exquisite hotel with 120 rooms is scheduled to open in Shanghai, another top hotel with 120 rooms will be inaugurated in Beijing and furthermore the opening of a luxury hotel with 209 rooms is planned in Dubai.

Versace is still relying on palaces and operates two “Palazzi” at the Gold Coast in Australia and in Dubai so far. The opening of the third Palazzo Versace in Macau with 270 rooms and suites will take place in 2017

Powerful fashion brands are important in top hospitality industry. Also world class hotel designers such as JOI-Design (Project: Curio by Hilton Hotel Reichshof in Hamburg/Germany) play an important part in the hotel construction. Top designers like Philippe Starck (Mama Shelter, Paris/France), Karim Rashid (Prizeotel/Germany), Marcel Wanders (Kameha Grand Hotels, Bonn/Zurich) or Werner Aisslinger (25hours Hotel Berlin/Germany) create consistently new hotel landmarks. The hotel design is no longer just an ambitious concept but a lifestyle demand for the entire real estate. In the future so-called design hotels will stand out due to their storytelling.
