FITUR 2024, the prestigious International Tourism Fair held in Madrid – Spain has successfully concluded its 44th edition, witnessing an unprecedented attendance of over 250,000 participants.
This remarkable figure not only showcases the event’s growing popularity but also signals a robust recovery and expansion in the global tourism sector. Held in IFEMA MADRID, this five-day extravaganza from January 22-26 welcomed 153,000 professionals and 97,000 general public attendees, marking a significant 13.7% increase compared to the previous year.
The fair’s extraordinary reach was evident as it featured 9,000 companies from 152 countries, including 96 official representations, surpassing previous records. Its global influence was further underscored by the participation of notable international figures, including Their Majesties the Kings of Spain, who inaugurated the event, Ecuador’s President Daniel Noboa, and Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.
This year, FITUR expanded its exhibition space, spanning nine pavilions – one more than last year. It served as a melting pot for the tourism industry, facilitating numerous business transactions, networking opportunities, and knowledge exchange. The fair’s diverse and inclusive approach was highlighted by its 10 specialized sections, including FITUR 4all and LGTB+, showcasing the sector’s commitment to catering to a wide array of tourist interests and needs.
The FITURNEXT Observatory played a crucial role, channeling the event’s sustainable commitment and presenting innovative practices in the tourism sector. The presence of nearly 400 authorities, including ministers, ambassadors, and regional presidents, further emphasized the event’s importance and its impact on the global stage.
In terms of economic impact, FITUR’s influx of visitors is expected to generate around 430 million euros in revenue for Madrid, underlining its significance for the local economy. Media coverage was extensive, with over 37,000 news articles and a strong social media presence, highlighting the fair’s dynamic and influential nature.
Looking forward, IFEMA MADRID has already announced FITUR 2025, scheduled from January 22 to 26, with Mexico as the Country Partner, promising another landmark event for the global tourism industry.
