International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney), managed by ASM Global, will have hosted 100 business events and 138,000 event attendees during September and October.
All serviced by its experienced team of passionate professionals, stimulating labour market opportunities, international visitation, driving the knowledge economy and increasing the cultural capital of the city.
Encompassing international congresses, national conventions, large scale exhibitions, entertainment events, awards and gala dinners, Australia’s premier convention, exhibition and entertainment venue is abuzz with activity as it supports event organisers to make a difference while further activating Sydney.
ICC Sydney CEO and Group Director – Convention Centres | ASM Global (APAC), Geoff Donaghy said collaborating with a diverse spectrum of clients delivered economic, academic, social and cultural benefits.
“September and October are our most productive months since June, drawing an average of over 2,200 visitors every day through our doors and contributing more than A$100 million in delegate expenditure to the local economy.
“The full gamut of our services has been activated and this activity supports our long supply chain. Our team has been able to re-engage and purchase from local farmers and producers once more from New South Wales regions including Orange, Riverina, Hunter and Hawksbury areas. Importantly, we have been able to create employment opportunities for almost 200 new team members both permanent and casuals to support the delivery of client events.
“Our reputation for delivering extraordinary events enables us to welcome medical professionals, technology experts, environmental scientists, international entertainers, and so much more, to drive knowledge exchange, positive social impacts and the cultural enrichment of the city,” Mr Donaghy said.
The International Desalination Association World Congress 2022 welcomed delegates with 75% arriving from global locations. Shannon McCarthy, Secretary General at the International Desalination Association (IDA) said the service levels at ICC Sydney were world class.
“This was our first major congress post COVID and the first IDA World Congress in Sydney. ICC Sydney was the ideal venue combining its stunning location on the waterfront and corporate alignment with our sustainability objectives. I cannot thank the ICC Sydney team enough for the care they took of our event. Their event management and audio visual teams ensured the presentations and exhibition were seamless. We also extend our great appreciation and compliments to the venue’s culinary service professionals,” Ms McCarthy said.
Xerocon Sydney 2022 drew 3,000 accounting and bookkeeping professionals from across Australia to the Centre while Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) was able to restart its in person fundraising event, the RMHC New South Wales Ball after a two year hiatus welcoming 1,270 attendees to ICC Sydney’s Grand Ballroom. The Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand delivered the Blood 2022 congress for 1,325 people and the Congress of the International Academy of Pathology 2022 attracted 1,300 with half of these in person and 70% from international locations.
Through the venue’s Legacy Program, activations through the period have delivered positive social and environmental impacts through events. From engagement with First Nations culture including Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremonies to promoting regional farmers and wine regions to reducing waste to landfill, ICC Sydney’s bumper months of events have facilitated greater connections into the local community and positive sustainability outcomes.
ICC Sydney will deliver an array of consumer and trade events until the end of the calendar year welcoming international entertainment acts including George Ezra, The Lumineers and David Gray. Exhibitions including the Design Show Australia and the VET Expo drew large visitation to the Centre. Business forums including Tourism and Transport Forum’s Federal Leadership Summit and Business Sydney’s Smart Cities Forum have also featured in the calendar.
