Taiwan’s Open Arms to the World: MEET TAIWAN Festival Marks a New Beginning

In a dazzling showcase of resilience and ingenuity, Taiwan inaugurated the MEET TAIWAN Festival Global Launch Event.

Organized by the Bureau of Foreign Trade and executed by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), the event kickstarts an interconnected series of business events happening domestically and abroad throughout September.

This celebration comes a year after Taiwan reopened its borders, showcasing the rapid bounce-back of its business event industry, highlighted by the return of international buyers and significant financial inflows during major events. To further solidify Taiwan’s brand image, 2023 saw the introduction of the “MEET TAIWAN Open Arms” campaign. Mr. Chun Hsiao, economic counselor of the Bureau of Foreign Trade, stated, “Taiwan not only welcomes everyone with open arms, but it also beckons global business leaders to embrace open-mindedness, nurturing infinite possibilities together.”

Simon Wang, TAITRA’s President & CEO, emphasized that the Festival’s DNA embodies four pillars: international, interaction, knowledge, and future. These pillars resonate with Taiwan’s mission to invite global business events, ensure productive interaction between local and international stakeholders, encourage knowledge sharing at forums like the Asian MICE Forum, and seek future business prospects.

In the ever-evolving global business event landscape, MEET TAIWAN employs pioneering marketing tactics to distinguish itself. One such innovation was the release of the “MEET TAIWAN Open Arms” theme song, accompanied by a lively music video link. Additionally, the newly-introduced mascot, PaQ, debuted at the launch, symbolizing the Taiwanese word for “open.” PaQ’s periodic appearances will not only enliven future events but also champion sustainability. For every hug PaQ gets, a unit is added to the Sustainable Fund, translating sustainability into tangible actions.

Under the guidance of the Bureau of Foreign Trade, MEET TAIWAN collaborates with industry partners to fortify its global presence. Taiwan takes pride in its state-of-the-art business event infrastructure, from a 5G-enabled intelligent venue in Kaohsiung to the culturally rich International Convention Center in Tainan. The forthcoming “Taiwan business events Corridor,” featuring the Taoyuan Convention and Exhibition Center, is set to further elevate Taiwan’s stature.

Taiwan’s commitment to bridging technology with business events shines through its Expo-Tech Program, which earned the Industry Partners Award from the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI) this year. With holistic software and hardware development, Taiwan promises not just a festival but a continuous wave of thriving business opportunities.
