The Turks and Caicos Islands Tourist Board, the exclusive tourism authority for the Turks and Caicos Islands, announced that the destination is welcoming the return of events, including the weekly Island Fish Fry beginning on April 21 and continuing with a full schedule of cultural and culinary events in 2022.
After a two-year hiatus related to the pandemic, this marks a significant milestone for the destination and an opportunity to celebrate its people, places, and unique culture.
“Turks & Caicos Islands Tourist Board is thrilled to welcome the return of events, inviting our community and international guests to enjoy the authentic sights, sounds, and tastes of the islands,” says Mary Lightbourne, Deputy Director of Tourism at the Turks & Caicos Islands Tourist Board.
“After two years, it’s a monumental moment to bring our communities back together with a lively event schedule, kicking off with the beloved Island Fish Fry.”
Starting this week, the Island Fish Fry will take place every week on Thursday evenings at PTV Stubbs Diamond Plaza on Providenciales from 5:30PM to 9:30PM and will feature over a dozen restaurant and souvenir vendors, a live band, and cultural performances. Known as the most sought-after event in the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Island Fish Fry entices locals and visitors to come together to create a lively celebration of all things Turks and Caicos in a family-friendly, open-air setting.
The Turks and Caicos Islands Tourist Board is also pleased to announce its schedule of events for the remainder of the year, with favorites including:
- South Caicos Regatta (last weekend in May): The Big South Regatta, a tradition since 1967, is a four-day celebration on South Caicos that features boat races, concerts, food, entertainment and the annual Miss Regatta Pageant.
- TI Summajam (last weekend in June): TI Summajam on Grand Turk features the Miss and Little Miss Grand Turk Beauty Pageant, with live band and entertainment, culminating with a fun day on Governor’s Beach.
- Turks & Caicos “Race for the Conch” Eco-SeaSwim (June 25): This annual event hosts 1 mile, and 1/2mile races through the clear, turquoise waters of Grace Bay for both novices and experienced swimmers. Proceeds from the race go to local charities including Provo Children’s Home, the Reef Fund, and the Turks & Caicos Islands Swim Federation. More information at www.ecoseaswim.com.
- Turks & Caicos International Film Festival (second week of November): This weekend affair is all about film, with a focus on the ocean and natural environments. It features premieres, master classes, and movie stars, like Delroy Lindo. For more information, go to www.tciff.org.
- Muskanoo (December 26): Maskanoo is a celebration of Turks and Caicos’ West African and Caribbean heritage that developed from 19th Century slaves celebrating Christmas by mocking the wealthy’s costume balls. The event is held near Grace Bay where there are fireworks, vendors, music, and food.
- New Year’s Day Junakoo (January 1): To celebrate the start of a new year, islanders take to the streets in bejeweled masks and handmade costumes playing traditional Caribbean music coupled with Turks & Caicos own rake and scrape.
