Valencia’s traditional fire-cracking Las Fallas Festival kicked off on March 1, 2023.
Although officially from March 1st until March 19th, the main days of the festival are from March 15th to 19th when all the big events take place.
The festival is held every year to mark the beginning of Spring and is known for its bright and colorful displays of fireworks, firecrackers, and papier-mâché sculptures.
The sculptures, known as “fallas,” are made from wood, cardboard, and paper and are usually satirical in nature. On the last night of the festival, the sculptures are set on fire in a spectacular display of light and sound.
There are also smaller Fallas events taking place in towns such as Alzira and Sagunto.
After two years suspended, the Valencia City Council and Amstel bring back the free Fallas concerts with 16 hours of music for two consecutive days (March 10 and 11). The Fallas 2023 concerts return to Valencia at their usual location on Paseo de la Alameda. There will be two 8-hour days of live music with a lineup full of national groups and local music groups that sing in Valencian. From 6:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., groups such as Fangoria, Miss Cafeína, La Habitación Roja, Nancys Rubias, Chimo Bayo, ZOO and La Fúmiga and the comic, musical and festive duo formed by Carlos Areces and Aníbal Gómez DJ will perform.
Churros and fritters also return to the streets of Valencia. More than 70 street vendors selling food will be distributed through the streets of the center of Valencia. Until March 19, thousands of churros and fritters will be consumed in these street stalls, where the average portion costs 7 euros.
