Spain Leads Tourism Recovery: FITUR 2025 Wraps Up with Milestones

The 45th International Tourism Fair, FITUR 2025, concluded in Madrid with record-breaking numbers, signaling the robust recovery of global tourism.

Organized by IFEMA MADRID, the event attracted nearly 255,000 visitors, including 155,000 industry professionals in its first three days alone. This marks a significant milestone for the tourism sector, reinforcing its continued growth and resilience.

Spain’s tourism performance in 2024 reflects this upward trajectory. According to UNWTO, international tourist arrivals reached 1.4 billion globally last year, while Spain saw an impressive 94 million visitors, contributing €126 billion in tourist spending. Madrid alone hosted 16 million visitors, generating €16 billion in revenue. FITUR’s success aligns with these trends, highlighting the demand-driven growth expected to continue into 2025.

A Global Showcase

With over 9,500 companies and 884 stands representing 156 countries, FITUR 2025 solidified its position as a premier event for the global tourism industry. Of these, 101 nations participated through official delegations, reflecting the fair’s international reach and significance. FITUR also had a profound economic impact on Madrid, estimated at €445 million.

This year’s theme, “Proud. We Are Tourism,” emphasized sustainability and inclusivity, key drivers of future tourism models. Experts discussed diversification, reducing seasonality, and leveraging technology to create a competitive yet sustainable industry. From sports tourism to film and language travel, FITUR highlighted the potential of niche markets to fuel balanced and viable growth.

A Royal Opening and Global Partnerships

The event was inaugurated on January 22 by Their Majesties, the King and Queen of Spain, with Brazil as the Partner Country. FITUR provided a platform for stakeholders across the tourism value chain to showcase the latest trends, foster business partnerships, and exchange best practices. It served as a testament to the dynamism of the tourism industry and its critical role in global economic recovery.

As FITUR 2025 wraps up, plans are already underway for the 2026 edition, set to take place from January 21 to 25, with Mexico as the Partner Country. The upcoming event is expected to build on FITUR’s legacy, focusing on innovative solutions and sustainable practices to ensure the long-term growth of the travel and tourism sector.
