International tourists spent more than 5 billion euros in the Valencian Community during the first five months of 2024. This historic figure is due to increased visitors, longer stays, and higher prices driven by inflation.
The National Institute of Statistics (INE) reported that foreign tourists spent 1.33 billion euros in May alone, marking a 29% increase from the same month last year. This contributes to a 28.3% rise in total spending for 2024, surpassing 5.033 billion euros.
Spain overall has seen a total of 42.3 billion euros in tourist spending, a 21.7% increase compared to the previous year. The Valencian Community received over 4.1 million international tourists in the first five months of the year, up 20% from the same period in 2023.
In May 2024, the region welcomed 1.15 million foreign tourists, 150,000 more than last year. A significant portion of these visitors came from the United Kingdom, with 307,945 British tourists, 32,000 more than in May 2023.
The increase in total expenditure is also attributed to longer trips, averaging over nine days in 2024 compared to 8.88 days last year. Additionally, the average daily expenditure per person grew slightly from 127 euros to 129 euros, reflecting the rise in prices.
This record-breaking balance indicates a promising trend as the summer season approaches. The Valencian Community’s tourism sector is poised to continue its impressive growth.
