Restriction on sale and consumption continues to be tightened under the government of the Justice and Development Party (AKP). The Tobacco and Alcohol Market Regulatory Authority (TAPDK) which enforces the tobacco and alcohol laws announced a new restriction.
Traditional ‘New Year Gift baskets’ sold at supermarkets during the last weeks of the year and especially for the consumption during the New Year’s eve celebrations, will not be permitted to include alcoholic drinks as well as tobacco products this year.
However, there is no law that restricts people to purchase alcoholic and tobacco related products in supermarkets. However tourists should keep in mind that alcohol sales in markets is restricted until 10.00pm.
