The General Directorate of State Airports Authority of Turkey announced passenger traffic results in September 2018. Data shows that Turkish airports handled 11.4% more passengers in the first 9 months of 2018, compared to the same period last year.
During September 2018, Turkish airports handled some 20,785,281 passengers; represents a 4.4 percent increase compared to the same September 2017.
The number of flight movements in September 2018 showed a decrease of 5.2% at domestic flights and an increase of 7.1% at international flights.
The domestic passenger numbers during September 2018 decreased 2.7% to 9,870,047. However, international passenger numbers increased 12.1% to 10,897,477 passengers.
Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport remained Turkey’s busiest airport with 6.1 million passengers in the month; some 1.7 million passengers on domestic flights and nearly 4.4 million passengers on international flights.
Sabiha Gokcen Airport, Istanbul’s second airport on the Asian side, served 3 million air passengers in September, an annual increase of 4 percent.
Cargo traffic was also on the rise, up 7.4 percent year-on-year to top 382.559 tons.
