‘Murder on the Orient Express,’ one of the most famous detective novels written by Agatha Christie was inspired during one of her trips to Istanbul. Legend has it that the novel was penned in room 411 at Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah during her stay. Adding to the property’s mystique, this room was later re-named after the author and is a must stay for Christie fans.
Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah, Istanbul’s most Iconic hotel, hosted the ‘Black Week’ crime fiction festival to mark the 125th birthday of Agatha Christie.
The festival attracted world famous authors including Alexander McCall Smith, Leslie Klinger, Turkish crime novelists and Agatha Christie’s grandson Mathew Prichard, who was a special guest. Around 3,500 crime literature readers attended the programme of events which included the grand opening, panel discussions and autograph signings in Beyoglu book stores.
