TAV’s Airport received an award in New York

Turkey’s TAV Construction, which is one of the leading companies of the world in airport design, financing and construction, has been awarded with an award in New York. Saudi Arabia’s first airport privatization project has been selected as the world’s best airport.

Constructed in Medina by TAV Construction, Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz Airport Project is selected as the world’s best airport project in the category of airport construction at the Global Construction Summit in New York organized by Engineering News Record (ENR).

Cumhur Kaur, TAV Construction Deputy General Manager responsible from Saudi Arabia and Africa, attended the award ceremony held in New York.

Kaur said, “TAV Construction has become one of the leading companies of the sector in a short period of time through the airport projects carried out at home and abroad. We have undertaken projects, particularly in Turkey and Gulf Region, with total contract value of more than 17.2 billion dollars. We are listed as the top company in airport construction category in the annual listings of ENR magazine. Carried out at the Holy Lands and as the first privatization project of Saudi Arabia, Madinah Airport project has a special meaning to us. We have been awarded this title as a result of fulfilling important significant criteria such as international team work, occupational health and safety, design functionality and quality, innovation and contribution to the sector were considered. We have achieved all of these together with our 5,300 employees from 34 different nations and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them all.”

Madinah Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz Airport has become the first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certificated airport given by the United States Green Buildings Council (USGBC) in the MENA region and the eight in the world.

TAV and its partners, Al Rajhi Group and Saudi Oger, won the tender held in June 2012 for the operating rights of Madinah Airport and started construction of the new terminal immediately. 153,000 sqm terminal building has 32 passenger boarding bridges. As part of the contract, TAV constructed 26 auxiliary buildings, 2 runways, 3 parallel taxy ways besides the terminal building.

Completed in 31 months before the official completion date given in the contract, the state-of-the-art airport, which is available for expansion and to provide service to all sizes of aircraft from all around the world, was put into operation on July 2nd by an opening ceremony attended by the King of Saudi Arabia.
