Wizz Air has launched direct flights between Ankara Esenboğa Airport and Budapest, adding a new international route between the Turkish and Hungarian capitals. The airline will operate the service three times a week.
The first inbound flight from Budapest arrived on 29 April and received a welcome ceremony at Ankara Esenboğa Airport. Passengers arriving on the Airbus A321neo service were greeted with flowers at the terminal.
The new route strengthens Ankara’s air links with Central Europe and adds another low-cost option for leisure and business travellers. Airport officials said the service is expected to support tourism, trade and cultural ties between Türkiye and Hungary.
Nuray Demirer, General Manager of Ankara Esenboğa Airport, said: “We are pleased to welcome Wizz Air’s Ankara-Budapest route to Ankara Esenboğa Airport. We believe this new direct route will strengthen Ankara’s international connections while further contributing to the long-standing tourism, trade and cultural relations between Türkiye and Hungary. As TAV Airports, we will continue working with our airline partners to offer passengers a wider flight network and a seamless travel experience.”
András Szabó, Route Planning Officer at Wizz Air, said: “We are starting this summer season with our most extensive network to date, and among the 15 new destinations we have added, Ankara is one of the most important for us. The launch of the Ankara-Budapest route is an important milestone in the development of Wizz Air’s network in Türkiye. This route will create new opportunities for tourism, business relations and cultural interaction between the two countries.”
With the addition of Budapest, Ankara Esenboğa Airport now offers direct international flights to 42 cities in 28 countries. Domestically, the airport has direct services to 35 destinations.
