FS Treni Turistici Italiani: A New Chapter in Italian Rail Tourism

The Ferrovie dello Stato (FS) Group has unveiled “FS Treni Turistici Italiani,” a brand new venture designed to boost Italian rail tourism and uncover the country’s hidden gems through sustainable and quality-focused rail services.

The official launch event held at the Museo Nazionale Ferroviario di Pietrarsa in Naples was led by FS CEO, Luigi Ferraris. Attendees included esteemed figures such as FS Treni Turistici Italiani CEO Luigi Cantamessa, Infrastructure and Transport Deputy Minister Edoardo Rixi, Karima Delli, President of the Committee on Transport and Tourism of the European Parliament, amongst other authorities and stakeholders.

The new FS Group company aims to deliver an elevated rail experience as a crucial component of tourists’ Italian adventure. The company will offer three primary services: “Luxury”, “Express and Historical Trains”, and “Omnibus-Regional.”

In the “Luxury” category, prestigious high-end trains, including the soon-to-debut “Orient Express La Dolce Vita” in 2024 and the legendary Venice Simplon Orient Express by Belmond, will provide top-notch rail travel.

The “Express and Historical Trains” service will introduce new connections, including night trains, between major Italian cities and tourist hotspots. These express trains, featuring fully modernized 1980s and 1990s carriages, will cater exclusively to tourist use. Along with this, the FS Treni Turistici Italiani will manage trips on historical trains, offering tailor-made tours combining train travel with guided visits, walking routes, and local culinary experiences.

“Omnibus-Regional” services will facilitate affordable regional train journeys on weekends along lines rich in history, scenic beauty, and unique culinary traditions.

FS Treni Turistici Italiani was born out of a response to the rising demand for rail tourism in Italy. It is committed to promoting sustainable tourism, reaching both famed destinations and offbeat trails, and showcasing Italy’s wealth of historical, cultural, and natural attractions through a unique perspective.
