A high-speed passenger train struck another train on tracks near the northern Italian town of Lodi and has derailed.
Rai state TV reported that the high-speed train departed from Milan at 5:10 am and was on its way south and hit a freight train with speeds around 180 kilometers per hour.
Italian authorities said that two railway workers killed and 27 injured of which two are in serious condition.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
It was the first train of the morning so there were only 28 passengers on board in addition to service crew members.
