Renfe Resumes Madrid-Valencia High-Speed Train Services

Following the recent severe weather that led to significant disruptions, Renfe has fully resumed its high-speed train services on the Madrid-Valencia route.

With the alert level lowered after days of intense rainfall and a red alert issued by Aemet, Renfe has reactivated its AVE and Avlo services on this major line. The restoration comes after infrastructure repairs following the previous DANA storm.

The first AVE departed from Madrid to Valencia today at 11:30 a.m., with the return service from Valencia leaving at 12:21 p.m. Although the schedule is now operational, minor delays are expected for the initial trains as tracks undergo additional inspection on the Valencia-Requena stretch. This cautious approach ensures both safety and reliability for travelers on one of Spain’s busiest high-speed corridors.

Renfe’s restored schedule on the Madrid-Valencia route includes a total of 199 weekly trains, providing around 80,000 seats. This high-speed offering includes 30 daily trains from Monday to Friday, with 15 in each direction. On weekends, the service expands to 49 trains, including 12 from Madrid to Valencia and 11 on the return journey on Saturdays, and 13 trains per direction on Sundays.

Valencia Cercanías Services Partially Restored

In addition to the high-speed trains, Renfe has reestablished various Cercanías services in the Valencia area. Beginning at noon today, services on lines C1, C2, and C6 will run on an hourly basis in each direction, while alternative bus services will continue to support the rail network in affected areas. The C3 line from Valencia to Buñol-Utiel remains out of service due to infrastructure damage, and the C5 line from Valencia Nord to Caudiel will operate at reduced capacity, with six trains instead of the usual eight on weekdays.

Renfe has outlined specific updates for affected Cercanías lines:

C1: Hourly service for the partial route between Gandía and Silla.

C2: Hourly service for the partial route between Moxent and Carcaixent.

C5: Reduced weekday service with six trains on the complete route between Caudiel and Valencia Nord.

C6: Full route between Castellón and Valencia Nord with hourly trains in each direction.

For lines C1 and C2, alternative hourly bus services are in place, ensuring continued connectivity for passengers. Meanwhile, the C3 line, connecting Valencia to Buñol-Utiel, will rely on buses, with stops bypassing Cheste and Loriguilla stations due to ongoing infrastructure repairs.

Valencia-Barcelona Long-Distance Services Also Restored

Renfe has also resumed long-distance services between Valencia and Barcelona. The first Euromed train from Barcelona departed at 10:15 a.m., while the service from Valencia started at 11:25 a.m. These routes had been suspended due to adverse weather conditions that disrupted all train travel between Barcelona and Valencia, including regional services and the Intercity and Euromed trains connecting Figueres, Barcelona Sants, and Valencia.

Flexible Travel Options for Affected Passengers

To assist passengers impacted by recent cancellations, Renfe has implemented flexible travel options, including free changes and cancellations for any class or fare. This flexibility is available for passengers on affected routes until November 30, allowing them to modify or cancel their travel plans at no additional cost. Renfe continues to keep travelers informed through its website, social media channels, and SMS notifications, ensuring a smooth return to normal operations.

The restoration of Renfe’s Madrid-Valencia high-speed services and key regional routes marks a significant step toward reestablishing full connectivity across the region.

With continued efforts to maintain safety and reliability, Renfe’s actions are a testament to its commitment to serving Spain’s travelers despite challenging weather conditions.
