SNCF warning

SNCF Advises Passengers to Cancel, Postpone Tuesday Trips

France’s national railway operator, SNCF, on Sunday advised passengers to cancel or postpone trips on Tuesday as railway traffic will be “strongly” disturbed by scheduled against government plans to reform the pension system.

“Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023, traffic will be strongly disrupted on all of our lines,” the SNCF tweeted on Sunday.

“If possible, we recommend that you cancel or postpone your movements that are scheduled for this day and favor telework.”

It added that services would be updated online and that passengers of canceled trips would be informed via email or text message.

Mass outrage erupted after the government of President Emmanuel Macron announced its pension reform proposal, which includes gradually raising the retirement age from 62 to 64.

Strikes and protests broke out across the country after details of the reforms were released on Jan. 19.
