Michelin Launches New Guide Covering Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah

The MICHELIN Guide announces its expansion into the American Southwest, adding Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah to its growing list of global destinations.

The new regional edition, called The MICHELIN Guide Southwest, will debut with a full restaurant selection during the 2026 ceremony, with Inspectors already conducting anonymous evaluations across the region.

The expansion continues a year of significant growth for the Guide, which adds the Southwest following recent launches in the American South and Northeastern cities including Philadelphia and Boston. According to Michelin, the decision supports efforts to assess the culinary depth of the Southwest while maintaining the Guide’s long-standing methodology and independent inspection process.

Inspectors Begin Evaluating Restaurants Across the Region

The MICHELIN Guide states that Inspectors are visiting restaurants throughout the four states to identify culinary strengths ranging from metropolitan dining scenes to emerging local communities. The organization notes that the Southwest offers a diverse and expanding culinary landscape shaped by regional ingredients, longstanding traditions and international influences.

“Our anonymous Inspectors have been eager to expand further into the Southwest and share their discoveries with the world,” said Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of The MICHELIN Guide. He added that the Guide aims “to showcase the distinct cuisine styles that are representative of the cultures throughout the Southwest, which blends a rich mix of traditions and culinary talent.”

Michelin confirms that the Southwest restaurant selection will follow its historical criteria, which evaluate quality products, flavor harmony, technical mastery, the chef’s personality and consistency across visits. All restaurants are inspected multiple times ahead of inclusion in the Guide.

Part of Michelin’s Broader North American Expansion

The new Southwest edition joins a series of recent additions in North America. Michelin’s first U.S. Guide launched in New York in 2005, followed by Chicago in 2011 and Washington, D.C. in 2017. California was introduced in 2007 for San Francisco and expanded statewide in 2019. The Guide has recently added Florida, Texas, Colorado, Atlanta, Mexico, Quebec, the American South, Philadelphia and Boston.

Michelin says the regional rollout enables Inspectors to examine each destination more comprehensively while highlighting how culinary markets evolve. The organization emphasizes that inspection decisions remain independent and are not influenced by promotional partnerships with destination marketing organizations.

The Guide notes that the Southwest’s growing dining sector reflects wider shifts in tourism, as travelers seek regional authenticity and a mix of traditional and contemporary food experiences. Michelin reinforces that the goal of each new edition is to provide travelers with reliable recommendations rooted in long-standing standards.

The 2026 MICHELIN Guide Southwest Ceremony, where the full list of selected restaurants will be unveiled, will be announced at a later date. Until then, Inspectors will continue evaluating restaurants across Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah using the same confidential process applied worldwide.
