Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Ulu Sungai Merah (Sungai Merah Primary School) received a donation of 500 books today, highlighting the Borneo Pickleball International Tournament’s dedication to making a positive impact beyond sports.
This generous contribution is set to benefit 874 pupils, providing them with greater access to educational resources and opportunities for learning.
As the first pickleball tournament of its scale in Borneo, the event combined competitive sports with a meaningful community outreach initiative.
BPIT organiser, Kuching Pickleball Association, adopted BESarawak’s Books Build Legacy programme and collaborated with The Hills Kuching shopping mall and local news portal Dayak Daily to bring the impactful project to success.
“When selecting the beneficiary school, we worked closely with the Malaysian Puppetry Association, the Lions Club of Sibu Seduan, and the Village Development and Security Committee of Batu 6-15 Jalan Oya,” said Amelia Roziman, CEO of BESarawak.
“Their insights and local knowledge were instrumental in ensuring the donation reached the community where it could create the greatest impact.”
The donation was officially handed over to SK Ulu Sungai Merah during a special ceremony attended by representatives from BESarawak, the school’s management, the Malaysian Puppetry Association, the Lions Club of Sibu Seduan, and the Village Development and Security Committee of Batu 6-15 Jalan Oya.
