Tripadvisor, the world’s largest travel guidance platform, has announced a major upgrade to its core trip planning product, Trips, with the introduction of an AI-powered travel itinerary generator. This new feature, currently in public beta, utilizes OpenAI’s generative AI technology to create personalized travel itineraries for users.
By tapping into insights from over a billion reviews and opinions from Tripadvisor’s community of real travelers, the AI-powered itinerary generator delivers reliable and trustworthy guidance. With access to the vast knowledge base of more than eight million businesses listed on Tripadvisor, users can now benefit from personalized travel recommendations tailored to their preferences.

Creating an itinerary using the AI feature is simple. Travelers input their destination, travel dates, travel companions, and the types of activities they’re interested in. Within seconds, they receive a personalized day-by-day itinerary that can be saved, edited, and shared with travel companions. This feature provides travelers with a comprehensive starting point for their trip planning process.
Throughout the trip planning journey, users can engage with Tripadvisor’s vast array of travel guidance content, including reviews, opinions, experiences, and photos from the community. All the content that users interact with can be saved to a Trip, allowing them to efficiently organize and build their travel plans.
Sanjay Raman, Chief Product Officer at Tripadvisor, emphasized the goal of enhancing the trip planning experience without replacing it. “Personalized results and recommendations from fellow travelers are crucial elements of the planning process, and generative AI has brought them together in a compelling way,” Raman said. “In the coming months, we will continue to upgrade our Trips product, improving the personalization of AI-powered itineraries and expanding the suite of travel planning tools we offer.”
During the current beta phase, the AI-powered itinerary generator is accessible to users in the United States via desktop and mobile web. The focus is primarily on experience, attraction, and dining recommendations. As the beta progresses, Tripadvisor plans to extend the availability of the feature to more markets and native app platforms.
