The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Investments & Aviation has announced an unprecedented achievement in tourism for 2023, with visitor numbers reaching new heights beyond anticipated forecasts.
The country celebrated a historic influx of 9,654,838 visitors in 2023, establishing The Bahamas as a frontrunner in the global tourism arena.
This remarkable tally signifies a 38% surge over the visitor count in 2022 and outdoes the previous high set in 2019 by 33%.
The data for 2023 highlights a 17% rise in foreign air arrivals, totaling 1,719,980, showcasing The Bahamas’ growing popularity as a top choice for air travel enthusiasts.
Moreover, the nation experienced a massive boost in sea arrivals, with 7,934,858 visitors in 2023, which is a 43.5% increase from the prior year. This growth was uniformly spread across The Bahamas’ 16 islands, each contributing to the overall appeal and success of the destination.
New Providence, Grand Bahama, and the Family Islands notably benefited from this uptick, with visitor numbers in New Providence jumping by 36%, Grand Bahama by 44%, and the Family Islands by 40% in both sea and air arrivals. These statistics underscore the widespread allure of The Bahamas’ diverse locales.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, The Honorable I. Chester Cooper, shared his excitement about these milestones, attributing them to the collective effort of the tourism sector, the unique charm of the islands, and the hospitality of the Bahamian people. The surge in arrivals across all travel modes and destinations reflects the holistic appeal of The Bahamas.
“This record-breaking year is a clear indication of The Bahamas’ position as a top-tier destination for travelers seeking unparalleled experiences. Our islands offer a unique blend of natural beauty, rich culture, and warm hospitality, making it a favorite of visitors from around the world,” Cooper said.
