2026’s top museum cities ranked

Cultural tourism remains one of the strongest drivers of city travel in 2026, with museums and art galleries continuing to shape how visitors choose destinations across Europe and beyond.

A new global ranking by Time Out, based on the opinions of more than 24,000 city residents worldwide, highlights the cities offering the most rewarding cultural experiences, from world-famous museums and Renaissance masterpieces to contemporary galleries and immersive public art spaces.

Paris has been named the world’s best city for museums, while London leads the ranking for art galleries. Italy also performs strongly, with both Rome and Florence securing places among the world’s top cultural destinations, reinforcing the country’s enduring appeal for travellers seeking art, history and architecture in one trip.

Time Out said the rankings reflect not only iconic institutions and major collections, but also the wider creative atmosphere of each city. For travellers planning cultural city breaks in 2026, the results underline Europe’s continuing dominance as a global hub for museums, galleries and artistic experiences.
